March 2008

Apryl and I just finished up the flowers for a very cool wedding in Cambridge last night – it was fun to do this wedding, a change of pace since it was on a Thursday night with the reception at the always hip and funky Upstairs on the Square (also one of my favorite restaurants).

I’ll post more photos soon from the event – but the bride wanted bold reds and an exotic, dramatic look. Since we both adore orchids of all kinds and incorporated them into the table arrangements, the bride’s bouquet, and the really extravagantly tall arrangements for the ceremony. We did arrangements full of white dendrobium orchids and curly willow; and other arrangements with the red Mokara orchids (seen here, photo taken at our studio). Our bride wanted an more abstract aesthetic, so we furthered that idea and made ‘cuffs’ of Angel Vine (except I’m not sure why it is called that since it really cut up our hands!!!) to surround each vase. More pictures of gorgeousness soon!

The Palazzo Barbaro at sunsetCiao bellas! Just back from Italia, where I spent a glorious week in Rome and Venice. I was wishfully thinking it would be a little more spring-like there, thoughts of wearing cute little silk sun dresses that have been tucked away in dark closets during the winter months, exposing my sad little white feet to the sun, alas, it was a little too chilly for those dreamings, but gorgeous nonetheless.

San Marco by duskHere are few pictures of things that particularly inspired me on this trip – what do the sum of these things add up to? To me, what I love about what I see in Italy is this fantastic mix of preserving the old, patina-ed stone walkways, grottos, canals, and palazzos and trying to live modern life among it. The most poignant example of that is of course Venice, a sinking city, built on an impossible dream well over a 1,000 years ago. Still glorious in its faded beauty, I hope some of these pictures convey how much life is still in this incredible city on the lagoon.

View into the Borghese GardensToday I (Julie) am off to Italy for six glorious days in Rome and Venice! Rome, may be my favorite city of all with gorgeous fountains everywhere and piazzas. I am in love and overwhelmed with its ancient-ness. Obviously I don’t have any pictures from the trip I am about to go on, but wanted to share this picture I took last April of the blooming lemon trees at the gorgeous Borghese gardens. More soon, ciao bellas!
