May 2009

This weekend marked the big start of the very busy wedding season for us! Over the winter and spring we had some events and weddings but the peak is really June through the end of October. Wedding season here we come!

Here are just a few fun and silly pictures of us in the studio:

And here, in the VERY early morning (note, Apryl is not a morning person! Well, o.k. maybe she just doesn’t like a camera in her face so early!):

Me and Apryl in the studio - I think it was too early for photos!

Bear with until our wedding season officially kicks off on May 30th with a wedding at  the uber fabulous Liberty Hotel in downtown Boston (who knew a renovated prison would be so cool?). We’ll soon start posting tons of photos from our weddings but till then, we wanted to make due with a few highlights.

The above bouquet was from a photo shoot this past fall with our friend Claire Folger. I call this our “Fireworks Bouquet” because of the beautiful little yellow oncidium orchids that fan out like mini fireworks. We added a few spiky dahlias and peach calla lilies.

This pretty photo is of arrangements we did for a small dinner party – elegant antique china set off against tonal blues and ivories:

Blue and white is the classic of classics. So utterly timeless as a color combination (think Ming china, Delft pottery, Islamic mosaics, etc) – it’s pretty, fresh, and light – I love this color combination for an early spring or summer wedding.

Peach and plum is such a gorgeous color combination, really quite perfect for almost every season ( just the kinds of flowers would need to be swapped out for whatever is in season and lovely). These photo are from a small wedding bouquet we created recently with lots of lovely spring flowers – ivory hellebore, plum ranunculas, and peach parrot tulips.

Springtime gorgeousness, no?Hellebore, tulips, and ranunculas bouquet

Springtime gorgeousness, no?

This color palette could be done in the summer with:
Peach garden roses, ivory lisianthus, and those beautiful deep, deep burgundy peonies

In the fall with:
Peach garden roses (most likely still available in September and October) with plum colored dahlias, and ‘cafe au lait’ dahlias

In winter/spring with:
Most of the ones featured here. Spring flowers start making their way to market in December/January – so the flowers carried out in this bouquet could likely be obtained from January through May.
