We just completed flowers for a wedding this weekend held at the Liberty Hotel in downtown Boston. For those of you in the Boston area, you simply must go (there’s a very snazzy bar on the 2nd floor with a view of it all)! The hotel is in a former prison, sounds scary, I know but it’s not. The space has been redone and is gorgeous, contemporary, and unbelievably cool.

To work with this unique space, our bride wanted sculptural unique flowers with a vintage-meets-modern style to work with the space. With her, we chose bold and elegant colors of aubergine, magenta, and deep red as seen in her bouquet below:

The bouquet had a slightly vintage cascade style (seen better below held by Apryl in the studio); and incorporates old-fashioned and fragrant deep red peonies, gloriosa lily, and a variety of orchids.

The theme of vintage modern dramatic was carried throughout the bouquet and the centerpieces too which were a mix of phalenopsis orchid plants and cut flower arrangements.

These arrangements were slightly wild and sculptural – which made them very fun to do! We used long branches of curly willow in the cut flower and orchid arrangements to add line and movements to the pieces. Other structural elements like the dark brown fiddleheads contrast against the luxurious sensuality of the peonies and orchids.

We used double-stemmed phalenopsis orchids on half the tables – these plants normally can be purchased with either one stem of blossoms or two stems. We decided to go with the two stemmed plants and I’m so glad we did. With simply more blossoms, they added more drama and interest. We also added some manzanita branches and curly willow to each container for both structure (to hold up the flower blossoms) but for texture too. Each vase was also filled with black river rocks for a natural but stylish touch.
